1920 - Suffragists win women the right to vote

Lynn, MA

The 19th amendment to the US constitution affirms the equal right of women to vote. It says, "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation." Passed the Senate on June 4, 1919. Ratified on August 18, 1920.
