Denae's Dad clapping at her wedding ceremony
This photo is important to me as it took place at my wedding and it meant a lot to have my Dad (and entire family) there. My dad is also gay and later in the day he read my coming out letter to everyone at my wedding (as a surprise). He is someone who made me feel comfortable enough to be out and open at an early age (even though he did not feel that way growing up as a kid). He and my mother being married and eventually separating also inspired me to live my life as authentically as possible at an early age to avoid living a life I didn't want.

The ruling required all states to perform and recognize the marriages of same-sex couples,
