2016 - End of an era: timeline of LGBTQ+ bars
The closing of Fran's Place on September 24, 2016 marked the end of the LGBTQ+ bar era in Lynn. Nineteen bars have opened and closed from 1937 to 2016. Some locations had multiple names over the years. For example, bars by six different names operated at 212 Broad Street.

2009 - Mayor Kennedy by 27
Angered by Mayor Clancy's successful push to roll back closing hours for bars in Lynn, bar owners, gays and straights, started a petition and later actively supported the write in campaign for Judy Flanagan Kennedy. Kennedy won by 27 votes, becoming the city's first female mayor but did not reverse the rollback once she was in office.

1986 - Women held hostage at Mr. Dominic's
Two women were held hostage at Mr. Dominics on August 10, 1986.
Since the opeing of the first Mr. Dominic's on Central Ave. in 1975, the business was restricted by the Licensing Board on numerous occasions. In 1986 the Licensing Board permanently rolled back the bar's closing hour from 2 am to 11 pm. The bar soon closed.

Mr. Dominic’s opened on Broad St. in 1983 and closed in 1987 after the licensing commission permanently rolled back their closing hour to 11:00 pm.

1984 - Angry neighbors want Mr. Dominic's hours rolled back
Mr. Dominic's moved from Central Ave. to Broad St. in 1983 and was soon met with community opposition. The bar closed in 1987 after the bar's closing hour was rolled back to 11 pm and the owner, Dominic Serino went to prison for insurance fraud surrounding the fire at Tamany Hall Lounge.

1976 - Fran's Place opens at the location of the Light House Cafe
Frances L. and John J. Collins open Fran's Place in 1976 after buying the fire-damaged site of the former Light House Cafe. Fran's Place welcomed the LGBTQ+ community for 40 years, closing in 2016.
